On January 1st, 2022, the Ministry of Health confirmed 2,127 new Covid-19 cases from 6,710 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's caseload to 297,155.
This marked a significant milestone, with the cumulative number of samples tested since March 2020 reaching 3,036,982, and a positivity rate of 31.7 per cent.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that the new cases comprised 1,794 Kenyans and 333 foreigners, with 998 males and 1,129 females affected. The youngest patient was an eight-month-old child, while the oldest was 103 years old.
Of the new cases, 1,434 patients have recovered from the disease, with 3 patients recovering at home and 1,404 in various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 253,715.
The death toll rose to 5,381 after three more patients succumbed to the virus.
Currently, there are 1,016 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 23,021 patients are in home-based isolation and care.
Some 39 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, with 19 on ventilatory support and 20 on supplemental oxygen. Another 234 patients are on supplementary oxygen, with 209 in general wards and 25 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
As of December 31st, 2021, a total of 10,100,993 vaccines had been administered across the country, with 5,862,875 partially vaccinated and 4,206,106 fully vaccinated.
