The scenes in Parliament on Wednesday were a stark reminder of the kind of politicians Kenya has elected. It's surprising that many Kenyans were shocked by the display of catfighting among the honourable members.
However, we should not be surprised. We know what our politicians are capable of, and it's not good for the country. They promise voters more than they can deliver, and we forgive them for their broken promises.
It's time for us to take responsibility for our choices. We elect these politicians, and we should know that they do not elect themselves. They are voted in by us, and it's our duty to hold them accountable.
Kenya's politicians and elected representatives act the way they do because Kenyans are forgiving and forgetful. They step on our toes, steal from us, and insult our sensibilities, but we never take them to task.
It's time for us to change our ways. We should not be afraid to question our politicians and hold them accountable for their actions. We should not let them get away with their lies and broken promises.
As we enter a new year, it's time for us to reflect on our choices and take responsibility for electing the kind of politicians we have. Let's promise ourselves to vote wisely going forward and hold our politicians accountable for their actions.
