As the country gears up for the general elections, residents of Murang’a have been urged to maintain peace and reject politicians who seek to divide them.

On Friday, Ahadi Kenya Trust Executive Director Stanley Kamau addressed men groups from Mathioya Sub-County, cautioning them against allowing politicians to exploit their differences during the electioneering period.

‘Listen to each aspirant, but don’t accept to be used to cause chaos and fracas. Our economy is more vital than the campaigns which will come and go,’ Kamau said during a New Year celebration.

He emphasized that the country needs more peace as it tries to revive the economy, which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘This time as Murang’a people, there is a need to conduct mature and peaceful campaigns. We don’t want anyone to lose life or get injured because of politics,’ Kamau added.

Chief Jane Kihara, who was also present, echoed Kamau’s sentiments, stating that the security will be tightened during campaigns.

‘Some aspirants instead of selling their manifestos buy alcohol to young people who usually cause chaos and disrupt people who are busy in their daily activities,’ she said.

A local resident, Manoa Gachucha, vowed that young people from the region will not allow politicians who cause chaos during campaigns.
