On January 1, 2022, a vehicle carrying Tanzanian soldiers with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) struck an explosive device in the Central African Republic.

The soldiers were on a mission to maintain peace in the region, which has been plagued by violence and instability.

According to a statement from the United Nations, this was the third time that MINUSCA soldiers had been targeted by explosive devices.

One of the soldiers was seriously injured and was airlifted to Bangui for medical treatment.

The Central African Republic, with a population of approximately 5 million, is one of the poorest countries in the world.

President Faustin-Archange Touadera was re-elected in 2021 and claims that his government has control over 90% of the country.
