Manchester United's 3-1 win over Burnley at Old Trafford on Thursday marked a significant milestone for the team, as they climbed to sixth place in the English Premier League (EPL) table with 31 points, tied with West Ham United.

The victory was Manchester United's first three-goal performance in the EPL since January 2021, and it came on the back of a strong performance from the team's players.

Scott McTominay scored the fastest goal for Manchester United in the EPL since December 2020, netting in the eighth minute after a mistake by Leeds United's goalkeeper.

Jadon Sancho doubled Manchester United's lead in the 27th minute, before Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the win with a cross that was headed in by McTominay, who was left unmarked by Wayne Hennessey.

Eric Bailly's own goal in the 38th minute allowed Aaron Lennon to score Burnley's consolation goal, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.

The win marked Manchester United's first victory under new coach Ralf Rangnick, and it has moved them up to sixth place in the EPL table, ahead of Newcastle United on 11 points.

Manchester United will look to build on this momentum when they face Wolves at Old Trafford on January 3, 2022, while Burnley will aim to bounce back from this defeat when they face Leeds United at Elland Road on January 2, 2022.
