On December 30, 2021, the Nairobi County government's plans to renovate Uhuru Park hit a roadblock after a court order suspending the renovations was not lifted.
The renovations, which were set to begin in 2021, were halted following a court case filed by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).
Despite the court order, the Nairobi County government had continued with the renovations, sparking controversy and public outcry.
However, on December 30, 2021, the court's order suspending the renovations remained in place, effectively putting the project on hold.
