Mlima Kenya's Presidential Hopefuls After Kabogo's Withdrawal

Published on December 30, 2021, by Taifa Leo.

William Kabogo's decision to withdraw from the presidential race has left Mlima Kenya with two potential candidates: Mwangi Wa Iria and Justin Muturi.

Wa Iria, the governor of Murang'a County, has reaffirmed his commitment to running for the presidency under his party's ticket. Muturi, the Speaker of the National Assembly, has dismissed claims that he is a representative of a particular political faction, stating that the region has the right to elect a president after President Kenyatta's departure.

The two presidential hopefuls, William Ruto and Raila Odinga, have been vying for votes in the region.

According to Kabogo, the presidential candidates who have been camping in Mlima Kenya will leave after the elections.

“We lost our direction and allowed our region to be invaded by politicians. We are now ready to fight among ourselves until we unite,” Kabogo said in an interview with a local newspaper on Monday.

It is worth noting that Kabogo had previously declined Raila Odinga's offer to be his running mate, citing the need for unity among the region's communities.
