On December 29, 2021, the National Assembly descended into chaos as rival MPs clashed during a heated debate on the Political Parties Amendment Bill.

Minority Leader John Mbadi was suspended for five consecutive sittings after allegedly assaulting Kipsengeret Koross MP Sigowet Soin, leaving him with an injury on his eye.

Session Chairperson Christopher Omulele directed Mbadi to leave the house for gross disorder, stating, 'You are ordered to withdraw immediately from the presence for a minimum of five days.'

Omulele also ordered Koross to seek medical assistance following the incident.

Meanwhile, Tigania West MP John Mutunga and Suna West MP Peter Masara engaged in a brawl, attacking each other with water bottles.

The chaos drew widespread condemnation from Kenyans on social media, with many expressing disappointment at the behavior of the MPs.

Majority Leader Amos Kimunya later appealed to MPs to consider the bill objectively, stating that it would clean up the political parties and enhance fairness in sharing of party funds.
