On April 28, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Nyandenda Sub-location, Homa Bay County, resulting in the deaths of two casual laborers, Geoffrey Ochoki and Hezbon Nyamweya.

Two National Youth Service recruits, Michael Adhemba and Albert Kipchirchir, were accused of their murder and appeared before Homa Bay judge Joseph Karaja on July 8, 2019.

Charged with the murder of Ochoki and Nyamweya, the two recruits pleaded not guilty and were released on a Ksh.500,000 bond with a surety of similar amounts.
