On a day when Liverpool's title hopes took a hit, Leicester's players were hailed as heroes for their incredible 1-0 win over the Reds at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday, December 28.
Lookman's 59th-minute strike, just three minutes after coming off the bench, proved to be the difference-maker in a match where Liverpool had more of the ball but failed to capitalize on their chances.
Despite being without a recognized centre-back, Leicester's makeshift line-up held firm against a Liverpool side that was bolstered by the return of Virgil van Dijk from Covid.
However, it was Liverpool's profligacy in front of goal that ultimately cost them the match. Mohamed Salah had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 16th minute but failed to score from the penalty spot, with Kasper Schmeichel saving his unconvincing effort.
Salah's rebound shot was then headed against the bar, and Sadio Mane was guilty of a shocking miss when he sprinted through the heart of the Leicester defence, only to blaze over.
Despite being on the back foot, Leicester's players showed incredible resilience and determination to secure the win, with manager Brendan Rodgers praising their 'absolutely heroic performance'.
For Liverpool, the defeat puts extra pressure on them to take maximum points at title rivals Chelsea in their first game of 2022 on Sunday, January 2.
