On Christmas Day, a tragic incident occurred at Kedong Camp in Naivasha, where Sergeant Ayub Apollo was allegedly shot and killed by his colleague, Joseph Kamau Muthunga.
Published on December 28, 2021, a court in Naivasha has granted detectives permission to hold Muthunga for eight more days as they continue their investigation into the murder.
Naivasha Senior Resident Magistrate Esther Mburu made the ruling, allowing the detectives to hold Muthunga at Naivasha Police Station. The court also directed that Muthunga receive psycho-social support, as he claimed to have undergone psychological torture since his arrest.
According to the court, the detectives had applied to hold Muthunga for 14 days to conduct a ballistic analysis on the gun and an autopsy on the body. However, Muthunga argued that the days were too many and that he had not received proper legal representation.
Ms Mburu rejected Muthunga's application, stating that he would be held at the police station with the directive to receive psycho-social support. The case is set to come up for hearing on January 6, 2022.
Meanwhile, an autopsy conducted by government pathologist Dr Titus Ngulungu revealed that Sergeant Apollo was shot three times, leading to excessive bleeding and the collapse of his internal organs.
