Senator Ken Lusaka has called on Luhya politicians to form alliances or merge with existing parties instead of creating new ones ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Lusaka, who is vying for the Bungoma governor seat, said that there are already parties that represent the interests of the Luhya community and that they should be strengthened rather than creating new ones.
He expressed concern that some politicians might be creating new parties out of fear of being marginalized during the party realignments expected in 2022.
“We already have parties that have roots and are owned by politicians from this region. We should work together rather than dividing our community by creating new parties,” Lusaka said.
He made the remarks during a Christmas party at his home in Mapera where he also suggested that the country should have two or three strong parties and let the people decide which one to join.
Lusaka emphasized that political parties in the country should prioritize democracy, especially during party realignments, to ensure that politicians have faith in the system and do not create new parties out of fear.
