Published on December 27, 2021, comedian Paul Kimani Njoroge, popularly known as MCA Tricky, has addressed allegations that he was once a street kid.
Tricky, a Churchill Show comedian, clarified that his fans misunderstood him due to the character he portrayed on the show.
"I have never been a street kid, but I have interacted with them," he said in an interview on Bonga na Jalas. "When I was in form 2, and my scholarship ended, I came to Nairobi, and that is where I got the experience of acting like a street child. The role stuck."
He revealed that he decided to act like a street kid to bring a fresh perspective to the comedy scene, which was dominated by similar acts at the time.
"People would give me tips, saying they did not want me to die of hunger," he recalled. "When I joined comedy, I had done great research and noticed that everyone came on stage adorning a suit. I decided to do the opposite and wear rags."
Currently, Tricky is focusing on his radio job at Milele FM, where he co-hosts a breakfast show with presenter Alex Mwakideu.
