December 27, 2021 - A latest poll conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting has revealed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is gaining ground in the 2022 presidential elections, outperforming Deputy President William Ruto.
The poll, dubbed 'Voice of the People Poll', was conducted between December 17th and 21st, 2021, and indicates that the August 2022 presidential elections will be a two-horse race between Ruto and Raila.
According to the poll, if the elections were held today, Raila would win the neck-and-neck race to succeed President Kenyatta, with 33% of respondents selecting him as their preferred candidate, compared to 32% for Ruto.
The two leaders are currently winning four regions each, with Raila enjoying significant support in Coast, Western, Nyanza, and North Eastern Kenya, while Ruto leads in Central, Rift Valley, Eastern, and Nairobi.
Notably, the poll shows that Ruto has lost some ground compared to 2020, when he was leading Raila with 44% compared to the former PM's 15%. In November this year, just a month ago, the research firm's survey showed Ruto was still ahead of Raila with 34% compared to ODM leader's 25%.
Infotrak's end-of-year poll is the first one showing Raila having an edge against the deputy president.
Furthermore, the poll reveals that majority of Kenyans feel that the One Kenya Alliance (OKA), comprising Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetangula, should be dissolved, with 55% of respondents supporting Raila Odinga.
