Published on December 26, 2021, the Ministry of Health announced 1,196 new Covid-19 cases from 3,415 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
With this, the country's cumulative number of samples tested has reached 2,990,670, and the positivity rate stands at 35 per cent.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases comprise 1,037 Kenyans and 159 foreigners, with 638 females and 558 males affected. The youngest case is a one-year-old child, while the oldest is 93 years old.
Of the new cases, 59 patients have recovered, with 51 from various health facilities and eight from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,996.
Unfortunately, two more patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 5,361. There are currently 704 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 18,696 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
Additionally, 18 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 12 on ventilatory support and six on supplemental oxygen. Another 139 patients are on supplemental oxygen, and 133 of them are in the general wards. Six patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
As of December 25, 2021, a total of 9,555,567 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 5,628,082 were partially vaccinated, while 3,927,485 were fully vaccinated. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8 per cent, and the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.4 per cent.
