Covid-19 Cases Surge on Christmas Day

Kenya's Ministry of Health announced a significant surge in Covid-19 cases on Christmas Day, with 3,749 people testing positive for the disease.

The latest figures, based on a sample size of 11,460 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, represent a positivity rate of 32.7%.

According to CS Mutahi Kagwe, the youngest case is an eight-month-old child, while the oldest is 92 years old.

As of Saturday, Nairobi leads in new infections with 1,668 confirmed cases, followed by Nakuru with 237, Kiambu with 203, Nyeri with 146, Uasin Gishu with 132, and Mombasa with 130.

The Ministry also reported that 703 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide due to the disease.

Additionally, 15,302 individuals are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program, while 17 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 10 on ventilatory support and 7 on supplemental oxygen.

Unfortunately, two more patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 5,359.
