On December 24, 2021, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Ferrán Torres' move to Barcelona was close to being finalized.
Guardiola emphasized that the club's policy is to allow players to leave if they're not satisfied with their situation, stating, "If you are not happy, you have to leave. We're not a club like other teams when you want to leave CEO and the president say no".
He also revealed that he had spoken with Txiki, Torres' agent, to facilitate the transfer, saying, "I called Txiki, his agent makes a deal and he's leaving. I want players to be happy".
Guardiola expressed his support for Torres' decision, saying, "If Ferrán wants to leave and go to Barcelona, absolutely no problem - I'm happy for him".
However, the manager ruled out the possibility of signing a new striker in January, stating, "We WON'T bring in a striker in January. This is the plan." The club's focus is on finding a new centre striker in the summer.
