Former Gor Mahia FC defender Abdulkarim Maqbul has made a bold move by joining Heegan FC in the Somali Premier League. The move was confirmed on December 24, 2021, as Maqbul signed a one-year contract with the Somali club.

Maqbul expressed his excitement about joining Heegan FC, one of the top teams in Somalia, in an interview with Taifa Leo. 'I am thrilled to join Heegan FC, one of the top teams in Somalia, on a one-year contract,' he said.

Maqbul's decision to join Heegan FC comes after a stint with Congo Boys, where he played in the National League First Division. Before joining Congo Boys, Maqbul had a brief stint with K'Ogalo in 2017 under coach Mbrazil Ze Maria, but he left the team after the coach's sudden departure.

Maqbul's move to Heegan FC is part of a growing trend of Kenyan players joining Somali clubs, attracted by the lucrative contracts offered by these teams.
