On December 24, 2021, a three-year leadership dispute between two rival factions of the Homa Bay County Disability Forum came to an end. The dispute had split the organisation into two groups, each operating independently and causing inefficiency in service delivery to people living with disability in the county.
Rockafeller Okeyo led the Homa Bay County Forum for the Disabled, while Bernard Agan headed the Homa Bay County Disability Forum. However, the two factions have now closed ranks to form one umbrella group, the Homa Bay County Disability Forum.
The new team is headed by Tom Okiki as chairperson, Hellen Olwa as vice-chairperson, Jacob Omoro as secretary-general, Masline Ngala as treasurer, and David Ocholla as co-ordinator. Okiki acknowledged the setbacks that resulted from the division, saying they agreed to work together to move forward.
Omoro noted that the division impeded service delivery to the group, as some officials used their positions for selfish interests. Ocholla added that the confusion caused by the division made it difficult for the county government to know which group of people with disabilities to work with.
