On Christmas Eve, Taita-Taveta Governor Granton Samboja Granton Samboja announced a major boost for 154 county staff, whose contracts had expired, by elevating them to permanent and pensionable terms. The move is expected to improve efficiency and delivery of quality services in the county.
According to Governor Samboja, the county will continue to hire and promote workers to meet the growing demands of its residents. He urged the newly promoted staff to remain committed to their work and deliver quality services to the public.
Board chairman Alfred Mlolwa explained that the decision to promote the staff was taken to avoid the high costs associated with retaining contract staff. He noted that extending the contracts would have attracted gratuity at the end of the contract period, making it an expensive option for the county.
Mr. Mlolwa stated, “The contracts expired this month. Extending them would have been expensive as it attracts gratuity at the end. Instead of renewing their contracts or extending it, we have decided to appoint them on permanent and pensionable terms.”
As part of the celebrations, Governor Samboja is hosting a Christmas Eve party today at Malela Primary School in Werugha Location for the residents.
