On December 23, 2021, Brazilian soccer great Pele was discharged from Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for a colon tumor.

According to the hospital, Pele's condition is stable, and he will continue his treatment for the tumor that was identified in September.

"The patient is stable and will continue his treatment for a colon tumor that was identified in September," the hospital statement said.

Just hours after his discharge, Pele took to Instagram to share a picture of himself smiling, captioning it "not for nothing." He also expressed gratitude for the kind messages he had received, stating, "As I had promised you guys, I will spend Christmas with my family. I'm going home. Thanks for the all the kind messages."

This comes after Pele had earlier stated that he would be home from hospital in days, in early December.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Pele has suffered from a series of health issues in recent years, including hip surgery that left him with recurring pain and unable to walk unaided.
