On December 21, 2021, a Nairobi court released Nina Jayesh Shanghavi, co-director of the popular city restaurant Nyama Mama, on bail after she spent two nights in custody.

Nina was accused of fraudulently obtaining Sh520 million from a local bank, Victoria Commercial Bank, between December 10, 2018, and November 23, 2020.

According to the charges, Nina, her husband Jayesh Shanghavi, and their company Good Earth (Group) Ltd allegedly induced the bank to execute a First Legal Charge over an agreement on land reference Number 1870/11/253, Nairobi, to secure Sh520 million as valuable security.

Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu ordered Nina to deposit her passport in court and not to leave the country without permission from the court.

The case will be heard on February 3, 2022.
