Residents of Gimba village in Voi, Taita Taveta county, were left devastated after finding a weak elephant lying down on the ground.
On December 23, 2021, the residents made distress calls to the Kenya Wildlife Society, prompting officers to arrive at the scene.
Unfortunately, the elephant died a few minutes later, leaving the residents and KWS officers helpless.
Just a year ago, a similar incident occurred in the area, where three elephants were found dead with their tusks intact.
As Christmas and New Year celebrations approach, the residents have expressed their desire to enjoy the meat, citing the massive destruction caused by the elephants in their farms.
