On December 22, 2021, a staff member who worked closely with US Vice President Kamala Harris throughout the day received a positive test result for COVID-19. The staff member was fully vaccinated and did not experience symptoms.

Following the positive test result, Vice President Harris received a PCR test and tested negative. According to a statement from her spokesperson, Symone Sanders, Harris will be tested again on Friday and Monday as per CDC guidance.

Despite the positive test result, Harris will continue with her daily schedule and depart for Los Angeles to spend the New Year celebration with the Second Gentleman. This is because fully vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine after an exposure, according to public health guidance.
