On Wednesday, Chief Justice Martha Koome administered the oath of office to Amb. Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri, the newly appointed Chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC), at the Supreme Court.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chief Justice Koome emphasized the importance of the PSC in driving Kenyans' desire for a nonpartisan, meritocratic, and responsive public service.
She noted that the PSC is a priceless asset in the country's governance system, and its manner of discharging its obligations affects the quality of the nation's democracy.
Chief Justice Koome urged Amb. Muchiri to ensure that public service is efficient and effective, and to work towards setting high standards that honour meritocracy, transparency, and fairness in employer-employee relationships.
She also reminded him that the PSC should strive to be the model employer in society, setting a benchmark for other employers in the public and private sectors.
Amb. Muchiri pledged to transform the public service into a dynamic and proactive workforce that will address the needs of the citizenry.
Also present during the ceremony were Cabinet Secretary Public Service Prof. Margaret Kobia, PSC Vice-Chairperson Ms. Charity Kisotu, Commissioners, and senior PSC secretariat staff.
