The Judiciary is set to establish a small claims court in Eldoret to settle commercial disputes worth below Sh1 million, reducing case backlog in the region.

According to a Kenya Gazette notice dated December 10, 2021, the court will be established under the Small Claims Act of 2016.

Speaking at a Court Users Committee in Eldoret, presiding judge Eric Ogola welcomed the initiative, noting that the court will help in achieving the objectives of the Alternative Justice System.

Justice Ogola hinted that the small claims court will reduce case backlog, and users in the region are expected to be ready to embrace the new court.
