On December 22, 2021, two herders from Isiolo County were attacked by suspected bandits while they were asleep in a makeshift cattle shed in the Mado Salesa area of Urura sub-location.

The bandits stormed the area early on Wednesday, leaving the two herders with serious injuries.

According to Lemmy Njiru, the National Police Service Deputy Director of Corporate Communications, a patrol team has been dispatched to investigate the incident.

‘The suspected armed Degodia militia attacked people who were sleeping in a makeshift cattle boma and fatally shot two people, namely Ali Raro Bakasa and Abdi Hassan Talo, all Borana male adults,’ Njiru said.

He added that the Salesa area is far and accessibility may be difficult due to heavy rains in the region.

This incident comes just days after a similar attack in Marsabit County, where at least 12 people were killed and three others injured.

According to Marsabit County Police Commander Robinson Mboloi, the attackers raided a manyatta in Jaldesa area and made away with 1,000 heads of cattle and 300 goats and sheep.

Police responded and pursued the attackers, recovering the stolen livestock after a gun battle.

‘We received reports that eight people succumbed to gunshot wounds and three injured during the fire exchange. All the livestock that had been stolen were recovered,’ Mboloi said.
