On December 21, 2021, a Kenya Railways train from Nairobi encountered a brief setback on its way to Kisumu, highlighting the challenges posed by heavy rainfall in the region.
According to reports, one of the wagons of the train derailed in the Muhoroni area, causing the train to stall momentarily. The incident left hundreds of passengers stranded for some time, sparking concern among members of the public.
Kenya Railways attributed the incident to the heavy rains that had pounded the Muhoroni area earlier in the day. In a statement, the corporation management apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and assured them that the issue had been sorted out.
The train was making a second trip to Kisumu after the resumption of passenger services in the Nairobi-Kisumu route the previous week.
Kenya Railways stated, "We wish to inform the public that the Kisumu bound train encountered a slight hitch occasioned by the heavy rains that earlier pounded the Muhoroni area. The issue has since been sorted out and the train is already on the way to Kisumu."
