Spanish rugby international Kawa Leauma, a 32-year-old lock forward of Samoan origin, tragically died on December 21, 2021, after an accidental fall in Amsterdam.

According to the Spanish national rugby federation, Leauma fell six metres from the terrace of a shopping centre, suffering severe head injuries. He underwent surgery but unfortunately died in hospital.

Leauma played for Samoa's under-20s and several Auckland clubs before joining Spanish first division club Ordizia. Although he made one unofficial appearance for Spain, he was left out of the 52-7 victory in Amsterdam, a World Cup qualifier, due to questions over his eligibility.

World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont expressed his condolences, tweeting, 'Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Spain international Kawa Leauma. My thoughts are with his teammates & family at this difficult time.'
