Published on December 21, 2021, the Ulemavu Initiative has called for the removal of High Court judge Anthony Mrima from office.

The group, led by Michael Makarina, accuses Justice Mrima of incompetence, bias, and gross misconduct in his decision to convict Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti over businessman Jimmy Wanjigi's firearms saga.

According to the group, Justice Mrima's actions demonstrate a deliberate disregard for the principles of judicial independence, conduct, rule of law, and constitutionalism.

Michael Makarina, the leader of the Ulemavu Initiative, stated, "We want the Judicial Service Commission to determine whether Justice Mrima's actions amounted to incompetence, corruption, bias, and gross misconduct, and to initiate the necessary procedures for his removal from office."

The group also accuses Justice Mrima of refusing to appreciate the material evidence presented before him, and of acting with malafide, morbid, and ill will to humiliate DCI Kinoti.

They further claim that the judge's decision to convict DCI Kinoti was erroneous, baseless, and unsupported by any tangible proof or evidence.

Michael Makarina added, "The intimation that the Inspector General was to bring Kinoti to court to answer to the charge of contempt long after DCI Kinoti had been sentenced is baffling and a demonstration of the court's inability to appreciate that the invitation is belated and obviously reverse of the process and procedures as they are understood in law and in practice."
