December 21, 2021, marked a day of embarrassment for MP Njuguna Wanjiku, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) representative, after a video of him struggling to articulate himself in Bunge surfaced online.

The clip, which has been widely shared on social media, shows Mr. Wanjiku attempting to explain how the Kiambaa people voted him into office, but his words are marred by confusion and incoherence.

According to the clip, Mr. Wanjiku is heard saying: “…they gave me an opportunity to market myself to the Kiambaa people, to sell my idea. Some of them be ensuring that we will ensure that we give bursary to the people of Kiambaa in a transparency manner that has never happened before.”

However, his speech quickly devolves into incoherence, with him repeating himself and struggling to find the right words.

City lawyer Donald Kipkorir was quick to comment on the clip, saying: “Dear good citizens of the Kiambaa constituency, it seems in sending the first UDA MP Njuguna Wanjiku to Parliament, you embraced bottom-up in education. The law makes it mandatory that an MP be a university graduate from a recognized university. I doubt he is a university graduate.”

Mr. Wanjiku was sworn into office in August 2021, and his bungled speech has sparked outrage among Kenyans online, with many questioning his ability to represent the Kiambaa constituency effectively.
