The Nairobi-Kisumu passenger train, which was re-launched just last week, suffered a setback on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, when one of its wagons derailed in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.

The incident occurred at around 5 pm as the train was negotiating a corner while carrying 212 passengers.

According to Muhoroni Deputy Sub-County Police Commander Zaphania Kamuren, the derailed wagon was caused by raised ballast on the rail.

"It is true one of the wagons derailed and efforts are underway to get it back on track," said Kamuren.

By 9:30 pm, the derailed wagon had been successfully put back on track.
