COVID-19 Cases Surge in Kenya: Over 2,800 Test Positive in 24 Hours

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health disclosed that 2,844 people had tested positive for coronavirus disease from a sample size of 10,215 tested in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry, the latest numbers indicate a positivity rate of 27.8%, with 2,561 Kenyans and 283 foreigners among the cases.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that the youngest case was a one-month-old infant, while the oldest was 98 years old.

County-wise, Nairobi led with 1,297 cases, followed by Nakuru with 233 and Kiambu with 222.

As the Omicron variant continues to spread, the total cumulative tests conducted so far stand at 2,943,979.

Of the 404 patients admitted to various health facilities, 19 are in the Intensive Care Unit, with 11 on ventilatory support and 8 on supplemental oxygen.

Additionally, 83 patients are on supplemental oxygen, and 79 are in the general wards, with four patients in the High Dependency Unit.

Unfortunately, one patient succumbed to the disease, bringing the cumulative fatalities related to COVID-19 to 5,354.
