As the Christmas season gets underway, Kenyans are being reminded of the importance of road safety, particularly in the face of reckless driving.
Government spokesperson Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna has launched a sensitization campaign in major bus termini in the city, urging passengers to speak up against drivers who put their lives at risk.
‘If the driver is speeding, why do you keep quiet? Don’t allow a (rogue) driver to jeopardize your lives. You are responsible for your lives,’ Oguna told passengers.
He expressed concern that some drivers fail to observe safety on the roads, leading to a higher risk of accidents, particularly during periods of festivities.
According to Oguna, some drivers do not observe lane discipline, drive dangerously, and overtake in prohibited sections, increasing the chances of an accident happening.
He challenged travelers to never wait until an accident happens before speaking up, saying it might be too late to do so.
Oguna also called on drivers to exercise caution to avert cases of road carnage that have been rampant during periods of festivities.
As part of the campaign, Oguna moved from one Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) to another, preaching vigilance among road users.
