Manchester United's players have been dealing with a coronavirus outbreak that led to the postponement of two Premier League matches. The outbreak forced the club to close their Carrington training ground for an initial 24 hours eight days ago.

On December 21, 2021, the club reopened the training ground, allowing their players to return to training on a staggered basis. The Premier League had announced that it would continue with its schedule despite widespread coronavirus outbreaks.

According to the Premier League, there were 90 new coronavirus cases among players and staff last week, a significant increase from 42 in the previous week. The outbreak has affected several teams in the Premier League, with six of the weekend's 10 fixtures being postponed.

Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, having played two games fewer than most of the teams above them. They are due to face Newcastle United at St James' Park on December 27, 2021, and then host Burnley three days later.
