Kenyan football legend Allan Wanga has announced his retirement from professional football, handing over the reins to younger players.

Wanga, 33, has been a stalwart of the Kakamega Homeboyz team for 12 years, and was also part of the Kenya national team that participated in the 2020 Africa Cup of Nations (CHAN) in Egypt.

Through a tweet, Wanga expressed his gratitude to the team, coaches, and fans for their support, stating that he believes the younger players will do a great job.

"For 12 years, I had the privilege of representing my country on the pitch. With the support of my team, coaches, and fans, I believe I have done my best. Now it's time to pass the baton to the next generation," Wanga tweeted.

Wanga's decision to retire comes after he was left out of the Kenya national team's squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, but he still traveled to Egypt to support the team.

Wanga's retirement is a significant blow to the Kenyan football community, but it also presents an opportunity for younger players to step up and take on the challenge.
