Kenyan football star Allan Wanga has bid farewell to international football, ending a 12-year career that saw him score 22 goals in 44 appearances for Harambee Stars.
Wanga, who serves as Kakamega County Sports Director, made the announcement just a month after being excluded from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad in Cairo, Egypt.
"For 12 years, I have had the singular privilege and great honour to represent my country on the football pitch," Wanga said in a statement. "Together with the support of the team, the management and the fans at large, I believe I have represented my country to the best of my ability."
“For 12 years, I have had the singular privilege and great honour to represent my country on the football pitch. Together with the support of the team, the management and the fans at large, I believe I have represented my country to the best of my ability,” Wanga said in a press statement dispatched to selected sports personalities. Wanga expressed his gratitude to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan people for the opportunity to represent the country, and pledged to dedicate his time to his county and club, Kakamega Homeboyz. As one of the top scorers in the SportPesa Premier League last season, Wanga's exclusion from the Afcon squad sparked widespread concern, but he has now moved on, wishing the national team the best in their future endeavors.
