On July 8, 2019, a shocking case of teenage pregnancy came to light in Bondo, Siaya County, after a 14-year-old girl revealed she had been sleeping with an older man in exchange for 200 shillings.
The class eight pupil, who wished to remain anonymous, told the area Bondo Sub County assistant commissioner Samson Okach that the man had been taking her to the bush to sleep with her in exchange for the money.
According to the girl, she had slept with the man at least three times, and each time, he had given her 200 shillings.
"We started dating in April. We have been sleeping in the bush with him and in return, he would give me Sh 200, now I'm pregnant," the girl said.
Okach further questioned the man, who claimed to be 17 years old but had quit school after scoring 237 marks in KCPE.
"You claim that you are 17 years old and you have grown beards. And you have come all the way from Alego to come and impregnate girls in Bondo?" Okach posed.
The man denied knowing the girl was pregnant, but Okach promised to take stern action against the two and urged parents to guide their children to prevent early pregnancies.
