On a day when only one Premier League game went ahead due to the spread of the Omicron variant, Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli scored a double to help his team record a comfortable 4-1 win over injury-hit Leeds United at Elland Road on December 18, 2021.
Martinelli's first goal came in the 28th minute, putting Arsenal 2-0 up in what was a superb first half display. Bukayo Saka added a third for Arsenal just three minutes before the break after his shot was deflected past Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Leeds threatened a late comeback when Ben White fouled Joe Gelhardt in the penalty area, but Rafinha's penalty was not enough to spark a turnaround. Substitute Emile Smith Rowe's late goal put the game beyond doubt.
Despite being impressive, Meslier was unable to prevent Arsenal's dominance, making fine saves to deny Saka, Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Partey, and Scotland full back Kieran Tierney.
Leeds' second successive hammering left them down in 16th spot, having played three more games than Burnley in 18th. Arsenal's third league win in a row put them fourth, firmly in contention for a Champions League place.
