Barcelona's young guns have done it again, securing a thrilling 3-2 win over Elche at Camp Nou on December 18, 2021. The victory marked a much-needed boost for the team, which had been struggling with two consecutive league games without a win.
Coach Xavi Hernández had been under pressure to deliver a win, and his decision to start with a mix of young and experienced players seemed to pay off. Spanish youngsters Ferran Junglat and Gavi scored early on to give Barcelona a 2-0 lead.
However, Elche staged a remarkable comeback in the second half, scoring twice in two minutes through Tete Morente and Pere Milla. The visitors' momentum was halted by a stunning late goal from 19-year-old substitute Nico, who scored in the 85th minute to seal the win for Barcelona.
The victory lifted Barcelona to seventh place in the standings, just two points off the European qualifying places, but still 15 points behind league leaders Real Madrid.
