On December 18, 2021, Sandra Mbuvi, the youngest daughter of city politician Mike Sonko, sparked a heated debate on social media after revealing her dislike for ugali, a staple Kenyan meal.

During an interactive session on Instagram, Sandra, who enjoys the finer things in life, stated that she cannot take ugali unless it's cooked with butter or Blueband.

Her response attracted a whirlwind of reactions on social media, with many Kenyans wondering how a person can hate the staple meal.

While some defended her, arguing that every person has their preference of food, others remarked that rich kids have many options because money is not a problem.

Some of the reactions included:

  • Godwin Arii: 'What sort of answer did you expect from a rich kid?'
  • Mike Nyingi: 'Just like any other rich kid, she thinks Kenyan food is not palatable.'
  • Pascal Mogosi: 'Rich kids have options unlike me. I either take ugali or sleep hungry.'
  • Comfort Asila: 'I wonder what ugali did to deserve this. I apologize to ugali on behalf of Mulembe Nation.'
