December 7 marked the beginning of a free flu vaccine initiative at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Kenya, aimed at mitigating the spread of the influenza virus.
According to the hospital, the free vaccines are currently available to health workers only, in collaboration with the Washington State University, which conducts research on infectious diseases in Kenya.
KNH has allocated 400 slots per day for the vaccination, with a first-come-first-served basis.
It's worth noting that the hospital's vaccination push is set to conclude this weekend.
Meanwhile, private hospitals in Kenya offer flu vaccines at a fee ranging from Sh1,000 to Sh2,000.
Interestingly, the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has stated that its surveillance shows no evidence of an influenza outbreak in the country.
However, the hospital's decision to offer free flu vaccines suggests a cautious approach to addressing the potential spread of the virus.
