On a historic Sunday, July 7, 2019, Kariobangi Sharks, a team from Kenya, faced off against Everton, a team from England's Premier League, in a thrilling match at the Kasarani International Stadium.
Abuya Duke opened the scoring in the first half, but Joel Williams equalized for Everton after a penalty kick in the second half.
Despite both teams having scoring opportunities, the match ended in a 1-1 draw after regular time, forcing the teams to proceed to a penalty shootout.
Abuya Duke missed his penalty kick in the first round of the shootout, while Williams also missed his penalty kick.
Everton's Adeniran had his penalty kick saved by Kariobangi Sharks' goalkeeper Brian Bwire, who then scored the winning penalty kick to give Kariobangi Sharks the historic win.
This was Kariobangi Sharks' second match against Everton this year, after they defeated Bandari FC in the SportPesa Supercup in Tanzania earlier in the year.
Everton had previously visited East Africa in 2017, where they played against Gor Mahia in the SportPesa Supercup.
