On July 8, 2019, the Siaya County Assembly's Health Committee released a report detailing alleged corruption and misuse of public funds in the Bondo sub-county hospital.

According to the report, the committee investigated maternity, borehole, and kitchen projects at the hospital, which they claim led to the loss of public funds.

Central Gem MCA Abigael Awino stated that the contract agreement for the kitchen project lacked commencement and completion dates, and that the tender opening date was November 20, 2018, while the evaluation date was November 19, 2018.

Awino also noted that there was no budgeting and procurement planning done for the borehole, and that the procurement officer did not attend the tender opening meeting.

The MCAs have threatened to impeach Health Executive Dorothy Owino if she fails to act on the recommendations, and have forwarded the report to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for further investigation.
