On Sunday, July 7, 2019, Madagascar pulled off a stunning upset against DR Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16, forcing the match into extra time with a late equalizer.

Chancel Mbemba scored in the dying minutes of the match to send it into extra time, where neither team could find the back of the net.

Madagascar then won the match 4-2 in a penalty shootout, with Yannick Bolasie missing the decisive spot-kick for DR Congo.

With this victory, Madagascar advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the match between Algeria and Guinea.

Madagascar's historic win marked their first appearance in the AFCON quarterfinals in their first appearance at the tournament.
