On Sunday, July 7, 2019, Kariobangi Sharks made history by holding English Premier League side Everton to a 1-1 draw at Kasarani Stadium in a highly anticipated match.

The match was settled in a tense penalty shootout, with Sharks emerging victorious to lift the SportPesa trophy on home soil.

Sharks' goalkeeper Brian Bwire emerged as the match hero, scoring the winning penalty against Everton's Jonas Lossl.

The highlight of the historic tie was the unique and distinctive celebrations staged by Sharks' players, which left fans and Everton players in stitches.

Players like Sven Yidah, George Abege, and Geoffrey Lemu showcased their creativity and humor in their celebrations, with Yidah even feigning a hamstring injury and dancing the 'Kanyaga lami' dance.

Everton players couldn't hide their delight and amusement amid their embarrassing defeat, with the match being a historic clash between the two teams.

Earlier, Sharks had set up a date with the English side after sinking Bandari FC in the SportPesa Super Cup in Tanzania.

This was Everton's second visit to East Africa, with the team making the first appearance in Tanzania two years ago, where they faced inaugural SportPesa Super Cup winners Gor Mahia FC in a game that the Toffees won 2-1.
