On a historic Sunday, July 7, 2019, Kenyan Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks pulled off a stunning upset against English Premier League club Everton FC in a friendly match played at the packed Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in Nairobi. The match ended 1-1 in regular time, setting the stage for a thrilling post-match penalty shootout.

Sharks' goalkeeper Brian Bwire was the hero of the day, saving two penalties and converting one to help his team secure a 4-3 victory over the English visitors. The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.

Abuya gave the home team the lead in the 27th minute with a neat finish, but Everton's Joe Williams equalized in the 54th minute with a low shot from a free-kick at the edge of the box. The match remained deadlocked until the penalty shootout, where Sharks' Sven Yidah, Bwire, George Abege, and Geoffrey Lemu all converted their penalties, while Abuya's shot sailed over the bar.
