On Saturday evening, police in Usenge, Bondo Sub-County, arrested six students at Usenge High School for allegedly possessing a jerrican of petrol to burn the school.
According to Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Wafula, the school administration was tipped off before an inspection was conducted in the dormitories, where the items were found.
Wafula stated that after finding the items, the school administration called the police, who came and picked the six students to Usenge Police Station, where they have been locked up as investigations continue.
“We are planning to arraign them once we are through with the investigations in order to face charges of planning to commit arson,” said Wafula, adding that they were also found with a matchbox.
Usenge High School was closed last year after two dormitories were destroyed by fire, whose cause is yet to be established.
Separately, police have launched a manhunt for a driver who allegedly hit a 20-year-old man along Siaya-Bondo road.
According to Nyawita Sub-Location Assistant Chief Ayub Ogolla, the deceased hailed from Ang’eya Village and was found dead yesterday.
“The victim comes from Gem sub-county and has been living with a relative here. We are appealing to members of the public to share information that would help to arrest the suspected hit and run driver,” said Ogolla.
