December 5, 2021 - In a bid to improve the quality of homes in Kenya, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has promised to provide newly married couples with loans of between Sh500,000 to Sh1 million to build new homes if elected president in 2022.

Launching his manifesto, which mainly focused on the plight of the youth in the country, Mutua said the move is aimed at improving the quality of homes in the country.

“Newlyweds will receive an initial capital of Sh500,000 – Sh1,000,000 in kind, payable over 20 years at an interest rate of 0.5% as a gift to invest in their new home and entrench the family institution,” Mutua said.

Mutua, who is angling to compete with other presidential aspirants, has also dangled promises ranging from bottom-up economic models, free secondary or university education, jobs for the youth, accelerating the war against corruption among other sweeteners to woo voters.

His 13-pillar based manifesto also includes tax reductions on the cost of petrol, food and electricity, and a promise to slash the cost of maize flour by half.

“My government will ensure that every household is able to put food on the table. For example, the cost of Maize flour will drop from Sh120 per 2 kilograms packet to less than Sh60,” Mutua pledged.
