Kenya Mourns Football Legend Joe Kadenge ¶
Joe Kadenge, a legendary Kenyan footballer, has left a lasting legacy in the world of sports. He passed away on July 7, 2019, at the Meridian hospital in Nairobi, leaving behind a nation in mourning.
According to his son Oscar, Kadenge's health had been failing him in recent years, with complications in breathing and failing sight. His condition deteriorated when his sister passed away in the USA earlier this year, and he was unable to attend.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and ODM leader Raila Odinga were among those who paid tribute to Kadenge, describing him as a 'loss to the sporting fraternity and our nation.'
As news of his passing spread, fans took to social media to express their shock and pay tribute to the former footballer and Harambee Stars tactician.
"Dad has not been in good shape," Oscar Kadenge said in a statement to the Nation. "He had complications in breathing and his sight was also failing. His condition deteriorated when my sister passed on in the USA earlier this year and he was unable to attend," he added.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga mourned Kadenge as "one of the greatest talents to ever grace a football pitch" and a true ambassador for the country.
Deputy President William Ruto took stock of Kadenge's immense silky skills during his hey days, saying that "he was a joy to watch."
As the nation mourns the loss of this football legend, we remember his contributions to the sport and his impact on the lives of those who knew him.
